That's why our special motto for the #AUTUMN edition of the festival is MEETINGS with the FILMS!

25 years after the beginning, accumulating amazing experience and achievements, after meetings with hundreds of the world cinema masters and representatives of the European and world film industry, with serious recognition, including FIAPF accreditation and inclusion in the list of Variety magazine, together with 50 of the most important world festivals in the world, SOFIA International FILM FESTIVAL expects its audience!

It's time for our special 25th Sofia Film Festival edition – by the end of September a compact program of world films will be presented, some of them by their authors. Most of the directors have confirmed their plans to travel to Sofia and to meet the audience. Our adaptation according to the transformation of the pandemic situation includes following strictly of all anti-Covid-measures - in the cinema halls and in the open-air spaces such as Sofia Summer Fest, and our team is taking all precautions to ensure the safety of the audience, attending our festival events..

SOFIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is the biggest film festival in Bulgaria. It began in 1997 and attracts more than 85 000 spectators annually. The festival aims to present the best of the contemporary cinema to local audiences and regional Bulgarian and Balkan cinema to international audiences, as well as to encourage cooperation between local and international filmmakers. Since 2003 the festival has International Competition for first and second films and is included in the FIPRESCI calendar. Since 2003 the festival has also competition for regional films and national short films (Jameson Short Film Award). Since 2009 we introduced International documentary competition. In 2007 Variety placed Sofia IFF among the Top 50 world unmissable film events for industry. In 2010 Sofia IFF was accredited by FIAPF as a competitive specialized feature film festival and became the only Bulgarian film festival recognized by FIAPF nowadays. SIFF is the only Bulgarian film festival recognized by FIPRESCI.

The festival is organized by Art Fest under the auspices of Sofia Municipality, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Bulgarian National Film Center and the program "Creative Europe" MEDIA of the European Union, in partnership with the National Palace of Culture, cultural institutes, sponsors, partners and friends.
