IMAGINE

Diary of the 24th Sofia International Film Festival

Day 13, Tuesday

INTRODUCTION

Dear Friends,

Happy Easter! Stay healthy, isolated and let’s share virtually our love!

A key theme at the 24th Sofia Film Festival is the Bulgarian cinema. In the programme we have recent Bulgarian features and documentaries, as well as some of the most successful films of the past decade and some older films shot in Sofia in the 1950s and the 1960s.

In today’s 13th day we present with some special video messages the films “A Dose of Happiness” by Yana Titova and “Twisted World” by Marius Kurkinsky, “Irina” by Nadejda Koseva, that was the reason for Martina Apostolova to become a “Shooting Star” in Berlin, as well as “Passengers” by Zdravko Dragnev and Tzvetan Dragnev. We will go back in time on a Tuesday at SIFF and we will remember the visits of Álvaro Brechner and Gary Piquer, David Mackenzie, Jan Ole Gerster, Svetoslav Stoyanov, Vanya Raynova and Martichka Bozhilova. On a Tuesday we were visited by the divine voice of Lisa Gerrard and we presented the cosmic video clip by Ivan Moskov and friends for the song “Pora Sotunda”, part of the album of “The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices” with main composer Petar Dundakov (who also wrote the music for the film “Irina”) – “BooCheeMish”.

Of course, to take care of your good mood and the pass on our best wishes for Easter, we remember the starry visit of the actors from the BBS TV series “‘Allo ‘Allo!”, invited by the translator and journalist Zlatna Kostova.

On this 13th Day of SIFF there are 18 films scheduled for screening. We will see them!

Yours,
Stefan Kitanov - Kita
Director of SIFF

SPECIAL FESTIVAL GUESTS: 'ALLO 'ALLO!

Listen carefully, we shall say this only once!
The all-time TV series “‘Allo ‘Allo!” was a special guest at the 18th Sofia Film Festival in 2014 for a great dose of laughter with screening of a special not broadcasted episode! Guy Siner (Lieutenant Gruber), Richard Gibson (Herr Flick), Vicky Michelle (Yvette), Arthur Bostrom (Officer Crabtree), Sue Hodge (Mimi) and Kim Hartman (Helga) together with their manager Keith Paddington Richards, all came to meet the audience in Sofia. They arrived on the 18th of March, Tuesday, when their first press-conference was held, by initiative and organization of the Bulgarian translator of the series, Zlatna Kostova. Here we share their meeting with the audience that we organized a few days later, on the 21st of March, at Cinema House. Until today, “‘Allo ‘Allo!” holds one of the primary positions in the BBC list of “Best British TV series”.
