The Sound of Rio: Brasileirinho is a look at some of the most original Brazilian styles in music – the so-called choro and chorinho, represented in their historical development and in their prosperous present.
Choro – the first true Brazilian instrumental music, dates back 130 years, and today is among the most modern forms of tropical music. Mostly instrumental, this genre is performed on dance and concert stages as a form of musical expression of the middle class formed at that time in Rio de Janeiro.

MIKA KAURISMÄKI

Finnish director, born in 1955. He graduated in cinema in Munich and his first film The Liar starring his younger brother Aki is a real sensation. Mika, Aki and a group of their friends founded the company „Villealfa Filmproductions“, which produces a series of remarkable low-budget films. In the 90's Mika founded his own company – „Marianna Films“. His first independent project was Zombie and the Ghost Train. In 1990, he went into the jungle with Samuel Fuller and Jim Jarmusch to make the documentary Tigrero: A Film That Was Never Made, awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at the Berlinale.
